The crossing is when the pledge officially becomes a member, and the line refers to the group of individuals who have been initiated at that particular time. They might also include the line name and number and other information. They most often include the fraternity or sorority name, crest, letters, crossing chapter and date stitched onto the jacket. Traditionally worn by the nine NPHC fraternities and sororities (otherwise known as the Divine 9), these finely designed jackets have become a popular way to display the letters and crest of your organization, and identify your members with your school name and chapter.
